Two spaniels, one muddy boot room and a lot of kit that didn't fit.
Feather & Roan is a small UK shop for cocker spaniels and the people who love them. Everything we sell has been chosen with those ears, that coat and that nose in mind.
It started with a puddle
Actually, it started with a lot of puddles. Our blue roan, Bramble, has never met a ditch she didn't want to lie down in. Our golden, Hector, has ears so long they arrive at the dinner bowl a full second before he does — and leave dripping gravy across the kitchen floor.
We did what every new spaniel owner does: bought the kit. The “universal” drying coat that was cut for a whippet and gaped at Bramble's chest. The wide, shallow bowl that turned every mealtime into an ear bath. The bargain brush that bounced straight off Hector's feathering. The flimsy lead that lasted precisely one rabbit.
Somewhere between the third soggy-eared mealtime and the fourth wet car seat, it dawned on us: cockers aren't just “medium dogs”. They're a very particular shape, with a very particular coat and an extremely particular sense of priorities (food, birds, food, you, food).
So we went looking for the things that actually work. Tall, tapered bowls that keep ears out of dinner. Towelling coats that dry a soaked spaniel in half an hour. Rope slip leads and canvas dummies like the ones gundog trainers use. Brushes and combs that get through feathering without a wrestling match.
Friends with cockers started asking where we'd found it all. Then their friends did. Feather & Roan is what happened next — named for the feathered coat and the roan colouring that started it all.

How we choose what we sell
Four simple rules. Our dogs enforce them strictly.
Chosen for cockers
Not “medium dogs”. Cockers. Long ears, deep chests, feathered legs and a nose that runs the show. If a product doesn’t suit that shape and that brain, it doesn’t make the shop.
Tested on our own dogs
Every bowl, lead, brush and coat has been chewed, dunked, dragged through a hedge and slept on by our own spaniels before we sell it. Some things failed spectacularly. You won’t find those here.
Honest sourcing
We buy from UK suppliers and independent British makers wherever we can — leather from the Midlands, prints made to order here, treats from British producers. Where something comes from further afield, we’ll tell you.
Proudly small
We’re a small business, not a warehouse with a logo. Real people pack your order, answer your emails and genuinely want to see photos of your dog.
A promise
“If we wouldn't use it on our own dogs, we won't sell it to you.”
