Sorry about that! Send us a photo within 48 hours if you can, and we'll send a replacement or a full refund, including delivery. You won't need to pay to send a faulty item back.
Products & sizing
What size harness does a working cocker need?
Most adult working cockers take a Medium (55–65cm chest), while smaller working females are often a Small. Show-type cockers tend to be chunkier through the chest, and larger males may need a Large.
The only reliable way is to measure: run a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Between sizes? Go up and adjust down. Our size guide has full measurements for every size.
See the harness size guideDo spaniel bowls really work?
Yes — and if you've ever wiped gravy off a cocker's ears, you'll understand why we're slightly evangelical about them. A spaniel bowl is tall and narrows towards the top, so your dog's muzzle fits in but the long ears fall outside the rim instead of into the food or water.
It won't make your cocker a tidy eater (nothing will), but it does mean cleaner, drier ears, which matters for a breed prone to ear problems.
Are snoods safe for my dog?
A properly fitted snood is a safe, simple way to keep ears out of dinner and out of the brambles. It should sit snugly behind the ears and around the neck, never over the eyes, and your dog should be able to eat, drink and breathe completely normally.
We recommend only using a snood while your dog is supervised — at mealtimes and on walks — and taking it off afterwards. Check the fit regularly with puppies, who grow fast.
Will a drying coat fit a cocker's deep chest?
Ours are cut with spaniels in mind. Measure the back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail; most working cockers are a Medium. Drying coats should be roomy, so size up if your dog has a very full show coat.
Where do your products come from?
We buy from UK suppliers and independent British makers wherever we can, and every product is tested on our own spaniels before it goes on sale. Where something is made overseas, we choose suppliers we trust and we're happy to tell you more — just ask.
Ear care
We're spaniel owners, not vets. This is general advice for keeping healthy ears healthy. If your dog shows any signs of an ear infection or discomfort, please see your vet.
How often should I clean my cocker's ears?
For most cockers, a gentle clean once a week is plenty — more often after swimming or a particularly muddy walk. Cleaning too often can irritate the ear, so don't overdo it.
Get into the habit of lifting the ear flaps and having a look and a sniff every day or two. Healthy ears are pale pink and don't smell of much at all.
How do I use an ear cleaner?
Gently lift the ear flap, squeeze a little cleaner into the ear canal, then massage the base of the ear for 20–30 seconds (you'll hear a satisfying squelch). Let your dog shake, then wipe away any loosened debris from the visible parts of the ear with cotton wool. Never push cotton buds into the ear canal.
What are the signs of an ear infection?
Watch out for head shaking, scratching at the ears, redness, swelling, a bad smell, dark or yellow discharge, tilting the head or pain when the ear is touched. Cockers' long, heavy ears trap warmth and moisture, so they're more prone to ear trouble than many breeds.
If you notice any of these signs, please see your vet rather than reaching for a cleaner — an infected or damaged ear needs proper diagnosis and treatment.
Should I trim the hair under my cocker's ears?
Many owners tidy the feathering on the underside of the ear flap and around the ear opening to help air circulate. Use rounded-tip scissors, go slowly, and if you're unsure, ask your groomer to show you how.
